Peter Merrington interdisciplinary researcher writer and creative producer. He is current ly a Lecturer in the Business of the Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of York. His research is situated at the intersections of visual culture media history and cultural studies focusing on the relationship between art film and place as well as questions of mobility labour technology and design. Between 2017 and 2021 he worked as a Research Associate on an AHRC project in the School of Social & Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow and the School of Geography Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University. His AHRC-funded PhD examined the relationship between contemporary art festival curating and place through studying recent cultural history in north east England. His recent work has been published in journals including Studies in European Cinema Cultural Trends The Journal of British Cinema and Television and Participations. As part of his research he often works through interdisciplinary collaborations with artists producers programmers and curators which has resulted in a series of exhibitions artists’ books screenings performances and events. He was the Assistant Director of AV Festival in Newcastle from 2015-17 and received a PhD in Fine Art from Newcastle University in 2016 he also hold a BA (Hons) in Social Science (Geography and History of Art) from Durham University.
